“Mr. Marriott is an innovator and represents one of the most globally recognized brands in the world,” said Robert A. Gilbert, CHME, CHA, president and CEO of HSMAI. “HSMAI is honored to be able to recognize Mr. Marriott, as Marriott epitomizes the definition of brand marketing. And we are proud to recognize Nancy, both for her in-depth understanding of the travel industry, as well as her strategic work in media relations. Nancy is highly regarded by peers for her innovation, and by her clients for her results.”

The Albert E. Koehl Award was established in 1975 to recognize those individuals who have made significant contributions to the advancement of the profession of advertising in the hospitality industry. The award was named in honor of Albert E. Koehl, an early pioneer in hotel advertising who was a founder of Koehl, Landis & Landan, and the author of the first textbook on hotel advertising. The first recipient of the Koehl Award was H. Victor Grohmann, co-founder of Needham & Grohmann, who was involved in hotel and travel advertising for more than half a century.

Known throughout the industry for his hands-on management style, Mr. Marriott has built a highly regarded culture that recognizes the value of Marriott employees. Today, approximately 300,000 employees are serving guests in Marriott managed and franchised properties throughout the world.
